The Premise

In 1870, France, Gauthier was a seasoned explorer. He discovered an old castle hidden somewhere in the jagged cliffs of Brittany. It was a fortress that had shockingly never been documented, even in a mapped country like France. Only by exploring its depths could this mystery be unveiled.

The Incident

As he entered the courtyard, he saw a fountain adorned with a stone gargoyle. As he approached, an unnatural scream, loud, and echoing as if it were inside his own skull, shook him to his core. He stumbled backward and fell, catching himself on the rim of the fountain. In an instant, the stone gargoyle snapped shut, swallowing his entire left hand! After a few seconds of pure horror and realization, he collapsed, falling unconscious.

The Awakening

He woke in a room inside the castle. His arm was neat and clean, the wound cauterized, but the limb felt lighter than before... Seeing a bowl of liquid, he felt an overwhelming thirst and drank every drop. As soon as he finished, a deep, dark laughter made the walls tremble. An incredible pain erupted where his hand used to be, and a dark tentacle began to tear its way out!

The Curse

While his body slowly changed, a powerful entity tried to contact his mind. At first, it spoke in a language he could not understand. But the more time he spent in the castle, the more he began to understand the voices. He felt his soul being erased... or perhaps, revealed.

By what? And why?

Chapitre 1 : Les Lamentations de Gauthier / Chapter 1 : Gauthier’s Lament

De la passion à la haine,
De l’humanité à la bestialité,
De la clarté à l’obscurité,
Écrit du sang de mes propres veines,

Que ce récit témoigne de ce qui,
Tapi au plus profond de notre noirceur,
Dans une impatience remplie de rancœur,
Ne désire, uniquement, que votre vie.

Toi, lecteur, subis l’apogée,
Le retour triomphant de ta folie,
De mes mots, tu l’as nourrie,

Two roads? There were never two. I stood still for ages. I took the path down the throat. And that has made all the suffering.

Two-headed Janus, opener of the softly gliding year, thou who alone of the celestials dost behold thy back, O come propitious to the chiefs whose toil ensures peace to the fruitful earth, peace to the sea.
